Honey: I’m Engaged!

Thought that since I’d shared so much of my journey with Jake with all of you, I’d share this as well!  Jake and I got engaged on Friday, March 18.  I kind of knew it was coming but I’d been wrong a few times before so I was trying not to get too excited.  But now I’m thrilled!

It started when he planned a trip to Rocky Point, Mexico for us.  We drove down on Wednesday (about a 4.5 hour drive) and came back on Sunday.  We stayed at a resort called the Sonoran Sun (picture after the jump):

Pretty fancy, no?

We were on the third floor, and the resort was right on the water.  In fact, here’s the view from our balcony:

The pool or the beach? So hard to decide, but the pool has a swim-up bar…

We didn’t bring our laptop and our cell phones’ roaming charges were insane, so we were completely unplugged the entire time.  Heaven!  I think I read 6 books while sitting in the sun.  Here’s where we spent most of our time on the trip:

Sunny and beautiful every day!

Friday, the day he proposed, was the best day of the trip (not only for the obvious reasons).  The weather was warm, there was no wind, and we spent the entire day on the beach (with a few side trips to the pool bar for daiquiris, pina coladas, and of course margaritas as well as fish tacos or quesidillas).  Mostly we read books or talked, although we did spend half an hour on a jet ski, which was quite exciting and fun.

There was an amazing restaurant five minutes by car from the resort.  We had a green salad with watermelon and goat cheese, and then I had shrimp stuffed with Oaxacan cheese, deep fried, and covered in raspberry chipotle sauce. Jake also had shrimp but his were coconut battered.  Mmm, delicious.  We stopped by a mini-mart on the way home, I thought to pick up an 8-pack of Tecate, but Jake nabbed the only bottle of champagne they had (it was like $80, which I know is far from as expensive as champagne can get but I thought was a strange purchase since an 8-pack of Tecata was like $4).  Then we went back to our room and had champagne on our balcony:

I was starting to get cold, but right before I suggested that we go inside, Jake proposed!  He got down on one knee right there on the balcony and said that he wanted me in his life forever.  Who could say no to that, especially against this backdrop?

I felt much warmer after that!  In fact, I’m glad we stayed out on the balcony a bit longer because less than 5 minutes after that, one of the other resorts along the beach had a small fireworks show.  Though I think the best part was that because we couldn’t afford to turn our phones on, I had the rest of Friday, all of Saturday, and most of Sunday to savor my newly-engaged status before I was even in the position to start calling people.  Oh, here’s the ring…

It's perfect! Exactly what I wanted.

So now it’s official.  We’ve set the date for May 12, 2012, which will be 6 years to the day since we met.  Looking forward to all the rest!
